2006

26/12/06

We can look back to the year 2006 with a great deal of satisfaction. We have shown our three younger girls in 27 shows in four different countries with a more than reasonable success. Angie has collected up to 6 CACIB and 10 national challenge certificates (CAC) in 3 different countries, and is Champion of Spain and Portugal. Amélie is Junior Champion of Gibraltar. Feeling that she was wasting opportunities in junior class, we upgraded her - contrary to our general practice -  with 16 months to the intermediate class . In 5 shows Amélie has got 2 CAC, 2 RCAC and 2 RCACIB.  At just 17 months she has been RCAC and best bitch 2nd at the 1st Samoyed Championship Specialty Show of the Spanish Samoyed Association. And all that competing out of coat! Haltija will whelp her first litter in a few days. And last but not least our old Silver - despite the vets' prognoses - is still with us and looks healthier than 6 months ago.

19/12/06 Up ã The Portuguese Kennel Club (CPC). Angie achieved her Portuguese championship with her CAC in the International Dog Show of Batalha held on Sunday 10th of  December. The CPC signed her champion title four days later, on Thursday 14th of  December, and we have got it by mail today.
Down ä The Spanish Kennel Club (RSCE). Angie achieved her Spanish championship in the Obligatory Show held in Vigo on Saturday 16th of September. Until now, the bureaucrats of the RSCE  have not found the time to sit down and confirm the champion titles of all dogs which got the right to be Spanish champions in that show. If the Spanish Kennel Club had been as diligent as its Portuguese colleagues, Angie would be Gibraltar champion too.
17/12/06 1st Specialty Championship Show (CAC and obligatory point for the championship of Spain) of the Spanish Samoyed Association. Amélie is RCAC and 2nd best bitch at just 17 months !!! Congratulations Nadége !
Many, many thanks to her judge, Ms Hazel Fitzgibbon.

We would like to congratulate here as well our friend Miquel Pardo (Can Batlle Samoyeds) owner of the CAC bitch and BISS, USA CH Polar Mist Secret Code (our favourite if we had bet before and during the show), and breeder of the CAC dog and BOS Daydream Nariz de Nieve de Can Batlle. Congratulations too to his owners Marta and Angel.

To round off the weekend, Amélie gets the CAC and is RCACIB at the International Dog Show held on Sunday. Thanks too to her judge, Mr Antonio Choya.

11/12/06 With Marga put out of action because of a broken foot, it was Luis who had a tour de force weekend with Amélie and Angie. On Saturday our 'little rocket' Amélie was shown in Alicante for the second time in intermediate class, now at just 17 months, and she was RCAC. After the show, he had to drive 1300 km to Batalha in Portugal. There, Angie - after a hotly contested show - was CAC, RCACIB and became a Portuguese Champion !!!
Many thanks to her judge Mr Denis Kuzelj.
04/12/06 Haltija's pregnancy has been confirmed today by ultrasonography. There are at least 5 little hearts beating. We expect now puppies for January 3rd 2007.
26/11/06 First show of Amélie in intermediate class. She gets the CAC and is RCACIB with 16 months!
Many thanks to her handler in the class, Dominique Firetto, for getting that incredible movement out of  her. Thanks too to her judge : Ms Kim Ramey-Leblanc.

The same day Amélie's full sister, Arctic Alsea de Sanna Gourska, makes her debut in the show rings with a CAC, BOS in Marseille. Congratulations to their breeder and Alsea's co-owner Nadège Dubois.

26/11/06 New section with a full list of Amélie's shows added.
14/11/06

With age, Angie resembles more and more her outstandingly beautiful sire : BISS USA & INT CH Rexann's Casino Magic. Thanks Kathy for sending us some fine pictures of your dog Casey!

13/11/06 Silver underwent today a palliative surgical intervention to remove a tumour in one of her mammary glands. She is back home and has dined with her customary voracious appetite. The good news is that her lung cancer seems to be stabilized.
12/11/06 Eight new pictures of Angie added (Photos, Our dogs, Angie). New section with a full list of Angie's shows added.
10//11/06 Humoresque Snowy Xamba, grandaunt of our Haltija on her mother side, new World Winner 2006 in Poznan.
08//11/06 Puppies section : 6-generation pedigree of the planned litter Oliwer x Amélie added.
06/11/06 Haltija is back home from her honeymoon in France. Now we expect her to whelp her first litter early in January 2007.
03/11/06 We have got the official evaluation by AVEPA of Amélie's elbows. Result : "Grade 0/0" (certificate nº 10).
By the low number of her certificates (nº 10 in elbows, and nº 3408 in hips, we can have a picture of the poor level of concern of Spanish breeders about the health status of their dogs. Anyway, we must take in mind that AVEPA is not the only official body for hip and elbow dysplasia evaluation in Spain.
02/11/06 The first Championship Specialty Show of the Spanish Samoyed Association (obligatory show for the Spanish championship) will be held December 16th in Valencia.
There will be 3 championship shows in that weekend : the Samoyed Specialty (judge : Mrs Hazel Fitzgibbon (Smiliesam Samoyeds) and a CAC National show  (judge : Mr Fernando Madeira) on Saturday 16, and a CAC/CACIB International show and Samoyed Special (judge : Mr Antonio Choya) on Sunday 17.
02/11/06 We announce the planned mating in spring 2007 of our Amélie with Vitkind's Oliwer Twist. See our puppies section.
24/10/06 We have got the official evaluation by AVEPA of Amelie's hips. She has been rated "A" as expected by our vet and by us (certificate nº 3408).
21/10/06 Haltija has started her season one month ahead of schedule. Now she is gone for a couple of weeks on honeymoon to France with her fiancé , the Multichampion  Thundery Thysonn de Sanna Gourska. See Our Puppies  section.

06/10/06 We announce the planned mating in late autumn of our Haltija with the handsome Multi-Champion Thundery Thysonn de Sanna Gourska.
04/10/06 Amélie and Angie have been subjected today to an ophthalmologic exam. Both are free of  ocular lesions and have been declared not affected by any hereditary defect.
03/10/06 Amélie has been checked for hips and elbows. In about 3 weeks we will have the official certificate by AVEPA, but both hips and elbows are normal.
25/09/06

Show weekend in Gibraltar. On Saturday, Angie gets the GCC, adds a new CACIB of a third country, and is BOB.

Amélie is Excellent 1st Best Junior both days, and becomes a
Gibraltar Junior Champion !!

Many thanks to their judges: Ms Carmyn Kingston and Mr Kari Jarvinen.

16/09/06 Autumn obligatory show for the Spanish championship held in Vigo:

Angie becomes a Spanish Champion !!!

Her littermate El-Al's American Boy for Bilken gets his Spanish champion title too. 15 years after ESP CH El-Al's Elegant Prince Charly (sire of our first Samoyed, Ciro) two new El-Al's Samoyeds add their names to the roll of honours of Spanish champions. Congratulations to their breeders Elsie Buhaly and Monica Hackett!

We would like to congratulate here as well the third Samoyed champion of  2006 : Snowmist High Voltage (half sibling, on their sire's side, of our Haltija, and descendant of ESP CH El-Al's Elegant Prince Charly on his dam's side).

31/08/06 We have just got  the result of the X-linked PRA test for Haltija. She is Normal/Clear, will therefore never develop XL-PRA disease and will transmit only the normal gene to her progeny.
Haltija will be bred in spring next year. We will now look for a healthy and suitable male for her.
10/08/06 New pictures of Angie in her second birthday.
30/07/06 We were with our three young girls for a show-weekend in Sintra (Portugal). Haltija and Amélie got bad results, and Angie poor ones  - although she succeeded in getting the qualifying excellent for the Portuguese championship at the Specialty Show. Moreover, the organization was a disaster, our girls were attacked by a male Boxer when returning from the ring to our grooming place, the owners of two dogs interchanged shouts and hits just in front of us after another dog attack ... At least we stayed in a wonderful hotel, and our Sammies enjoyed our long walks through the Sintra forest.

10/07/06 Silver has been diagnosed an invasive lung cancer. The vets are astonished  that she still looks so happy, eats with great relish, shows no signs of pain, and is always ready for a long walk with the rest of the pack. We had always thought that she would live at least 14 years, since she is a very strong girl. That will not be possible. We are desolated, and look ahead to the next weeks or months with a great deal of anxiety. Until now, all our Sams crossed one day the rainbow bridge unexpectedly.
08/07/06 Amélie is 1 year old today. See the pictures of our pretty birthday girl.
18/06/06 Haltija gets her first CAC. Many thanks to her judge Pascual Asensi.
10/06/06 We attend the European Winner Show at Helsinki. Although we had entered our three young girls with the intention of taking the two in better shape with us, we had to leave all of them at home. Two were in season, and the third absolutely out of coat. The low number of participants and the absence of most of the Finnish breeders disappointed us. At least we could see some interesting Sams from Russia and Poland. And the winner was a half sibling (on her sire's side) of our Amélie: Sam-Ways From Josie-Teryky Le Lotha.
04/06/06 Amélie's G-sire, Natchouko de Sanna Gourska,  is new French champion. Natchouko, now 8 years old, has got his champion title in only 4 shows after having been away from the show rings since 2000. Congrats to his breeder and co-owner, Nadège Dubois, and to his handler, Dominique Firetto.
20/05/06 Angie is CAC + CACIB + BOS at the International Spring Dog Show of the RSCE (Spanish Kennel Club) - obligatory show for the championship of Spain. Her littermate, El-Al's American Boy for Bilken (Dandy), is CAC + CACIB + BOB. Congratulations to his owners Belén and Enrique, and to Angie's and Dandy's breeders, Elsie Buhaly and her daughter Monica Hackett, for this splendid win. Both Dandy and Angie only need to be rated excellent in one of the next obligatory shows or breed specialty shows to get their well deserved Spanish Champion titles.
Many thanks to the judge Ms Jean Lanning.
13/05/06 Angie, in her first show in open class, gets her 3rd CACIB and her first CAC for the Portuguese championship with a qualification report completely full of excellent grades. Haltija makes her debut in intermediate class with a RCAC and a RCACIB. Many thanks to their judge Paula Heikkinen-Lehkonen.
We are very happy, but all could have been very different. Angie was attacked and bitten in the prering by a St. Bernhard, who caught her left upper thigh with his big mouth. Fortunately the incident shook us and her but that was all. We are still waiting for the handler of the attacker to make his apologies. Maybe we should reconsider our taking part in shows organized in places clearly unsuitable because of lack of space.
10/05/06 Haltija's eyes have been re-checked today. Result: clear.
23/04/06 New photos of Amélie with 9 months. Our girls are growing up!
20/04/06 To date four out of seven littermates of Haltija (Hardyhurricane, Hemingway, Hemmo Halinalle and Happendinhalti) have been evaluated for hip status: all have been rated A/A (excellent hips), as Haltija and their sire (Jeppe) and dam (Piku) . Congratulations to their breeder and owners.
20/04/06 Some old pictures added to Photos.
05/04/06 Silver is twelve today. Happy birthday! She is old and overweight, but she keeps her splendid dense, "easy-care", coat , and does not miss any of our daily cross-country, several kilometres long, walks with the rest of the pack. See pictures of her, taken today.
03/04/06 We have got the official evaluation made by AVEPA of Haltija's hips: she has been rated "A" (certificate nº 3135).
For Angie they confirm the same status as the OFA: "C" (certificate nº 3134).
03/04/06 Last weekend Amélie was shown for the last two times in puppy class. On Sunday she ended with a new BOB puppy.
Haltija, absolutely out of coat, finished her career in junior class with two Excellent 1st BOB Junior. We are very satisfied with her: due to her type, very different from the average European taste, we were very sceptical about her possibilities in the ring. But she has an outstanding feature, many judges could not overlook: her movement. We will thank here all of them, especially Carmen Navarro (specialist judge and Samoyed breeder herself) for the BOB she awarded to our Haltija with 9 months last November.
We hope Haltija will improve with age and expect her to be at full splendour with 3-4 years.
28/03/06 We have got the OFA result for Angie's hips. Unfortunately, she has been rated Mild (= FCI - C). Therefore, we will not breed her. In our breeding program we will adhere to the rules of the Austrian Club of Nordic Dogs: breed only A x A or A x B rated dogs. We are desolated since Angie is a lovely bitch with many outstanding features, and a fantastic pedigree. Of course, she will continue her successful career as a show bitch.
We will express here our public thanks to her breeders, Elsie Buhaly and her daughter Monica Hackett, for their warm and sincere support, and their promise to breed the best puppy they can, for us to show and breed in future.
26/03/06 Angie wins her second Spanish CACIB and is BOB for the second time. And she is still in intermediate class. Amélie is BOB puppy again. Haltija, completely out of coat, is rated very good only. Many thanks to their judge Ms Monique van Brempt.
Angie's splendid coat with its glittering silvertips caused sensation. In fact, several people came to us asking for what products we were using to get that finish. Our answer was the truth: we do not use any cosmetics on her (they would only spoil her superb coat). We had her bathed the day before and brushed for several hours. A short brushing before entering the ring was all she needed. The rest is genetics, good food and daily exercise. Of course, she - and the rest of our Sammies - lives in hour house: no need, therefore, to mask urine stains typical in kennel hold Samoyeds.
14/03/06 The Spanish Kennel Club (RSCE) confers the organization of the CAC-Samoyed-Specialty-Show (obligatory point for the Spanish championship) on the Spanish Samoyed Association.
09/03/06 We have attended the Crufts Dog Show. It was a joy for us to see over 160 Samoyeds in the ring. We did like the way Ms AM Danvers-Schmith made a very careful and relaxed examination for 6 hours of all the dogs and bitches! Not all our favourites were honoured by her, but never mind.
03/03/06 Amélie begins her agility training. Our aim is not to compete with her, but have her interacting with other dogs without the presence of her very indulgent and protecting friends Angie and Haltija.
02/03/06 Angie and Haltija have been x-rayed for hip status evaluation. We will have their official results in about 3 weeks.
26/02/06 Web site updated with links and new photos.
21/02/06 New photos of Angie with 18 months after winning her first CACIB and her 3rd CAC in Granada!
Many thanks to her judge Ms Irene González Moreno.
