It's time again of
looking back to another year and taking stock of
our achievements.
Haltija whelped her second litter mid of
February: 6 girls and 2 boys. We were seeing
things through rose-tinted spectacles, when four
days after giving away 7 of the puppies to their
new homes we were struck first with the
news that three of them were seriously ill and a
couple of days later that two had died. The
semi-official cause of it was by parvovirus,
despite all of them had been vaccinated three
times against it. Trying to verify what we could
have done wrong, we started some inquiries only
to be faced with a bleak stage of professional
incompetence and bad faith. The test done to one
of the dead puppies and used to determine the
cause of his death would always give positive in
a recently vaccinated dog. Was the chief
veterinarian of the vet clinic where the boy
puppy died
unaware of it? Anyway he had no problem in
charging a not insignificant amount of money for
a useless test. But this was not his only
achievement. After having agreed with our vet
that the body of the puppy had to be sent to a
reference laboratory in Spain to perform an
autopsy paid by Pfizer Laboratories,
manufacturers of the vaccines administered to our
puppies, he ordered next day to cremate the
body!
The story with the other dead puppy, the girl
one, in a different vet clinic is not very
edifying either. After having told her owner
first that it was distemper, later parvovirus,
and again distemper, when it came to sign a
certificate they wrote: 'gastroenteritis,
possibly of viral origin', and attached a blood
analysis indicating e.g. 2 white corpuscles/µl.
That their test machine was absolutely out of
calibration did not prevent them charging for
another useless test. Had they really looked at
the results or were they only presuming that the
rest of mortals are mere illiterates in medical
issues?
If this is the average professional and ethical
level of Spanish vet clinics, dog owners should
think it twice before spending money (huge
amounts of it) in them!
Let us speak now about quite different issues:
the results of our girls in conformation. Once
recovered from her motherhood, and flaunting a
splendid coat, we showed Haltija in Austria
three times. Despite her size and primitive type
she took three Austrian CACs and one RCACIB/CACIB
back home. In her three Spanish shows she was
always graded excellent and got 1 CAC, 1 RCACIB/CACIB
and 2 RCAC.
Many judges like our youngest girl Lily. Shown
twice in Portugal, she got two CACs. In
Gibraltar she achieved one GCC and one CACIB,
getting qualified for Crufts 2009, and sharing one of
the days the honour places in the breed with her
sire Thysonn. In Spanish shows she earned
three CACs, one RCACIB/CACIB, plus the
excellent-obligatory at the Spring Championship
Show of the Spanish Kennel Club.
Another of Haltija's pups, our Mexican boy
Northy, achieved some great results in the New
World in official FCI shows: a
BIS as a baby and some group placements
competing in puppy class.
Amélie finished her International Champion title
in March at her first attempt, but later she
told as clearly that she does not love dog
shows. In May she was for the third time RCAC at
the Obligatory Show for the Spanish
championship, loosing most probably her last
opportunity to be a champion in Spain. Now we
expect her to whelp her first litter mid of
February. In a couple of weeks we hope to be
able to announce the glad tidings that she is
pregnant.
As for the kennel star in the show rings, Angie,
she is enjoying a splendid maturity. Shown 7
times this year (3 in Austria and 4 in Spain)
she has ended the year undefeated by any bitch
since October 2007. Her main achievement in the
year was her BOB win at the Austrian Bundessieger Show in Tulln, but she took 3 BOB
wins more and 3 BOS placings. Until now
she has earned 10 BOB, 10 BOS, 13 CACIB (8 in
Spain, 2 in Portugal, 1 in Gibraltar, 2 in
Austria), 21 championship challenge/aptness certificates
in four different countries (counting
8 confirmation certificates from Spain and
Portugal), and a RBISS at the 2007 Spanish Samoyed Specialty
Show. |

21/12/08 |
This weekend we
had Lily challenging her mother, Haltija, in a
show ring for the first time. Lily took both
days the CAC, pushing Haltija into the RCAC, and
on Sunday a RCACIB/CACIB. Angie, on her part,
was BOB on Saturday, totalling 10 so far, and
CACIB + BOS on Sunday. With this show we have
finished the 2008 season. Amélie was not shown,
since she was on a short honeymoon in France. |
|
07/12/08 |
Earlier than
expected, Amélie has started to be in heat, just
before entering the show ring today in Alicante.
As a result, she had not her best performance.
Now we must arrange her mating quickly if we are
to breed her as planned. |
|
23/11/08 |
Today Amélie has
celebrated her sixty (60!) show with a CACIB +
BOB win in Torre Pacheco. However, the best news is: she really
enjoyed again being shown. Of course not that
much as playing at the beach:

|
|
15/11/08 |
Lily's sire,
Thundery Thysonn de Sanna Gourska, does not stop
adding titles. Today he was CAC + CACIB + BOB
(Euro Cup 2008 winner) at the International Dog
Show held in Kortrijk (Belgium) and has finished his
Belgian championship, which is his ninth FCI
champion title. |
|
12/11/08 |
Taking advantage
of the fact that Optigen had stored a sample of
genetic material of Haltija after her XL-PRA
test made in 2006, we let it be checked for RD/OSD.
Retinal Dysplasia /
OculoSkeletal
Dysplasia is a serious inherited disease in
Labradors and Samoyeds. The good news is that
there is now a genetic test available since very recently,
and that Haltija has been declared genetically
clear of the mutant gene (Optigen test report
October 27, 2008). |

Lily's sire,
Multi-CH Thundery Thysonn de Sanna Gourska,
again Best In Show. This time at the
International All Breed Dog Show of Castres
(France) with 1482 dogs entered. |
|
05/11/08 |
Today Amélie
passed her recurrent ophthalmologic exam.
Result: eyes clear (no abnormality detected). We
will breed her in the next few months. |

New section—Family
Album—added to our page. For the moment
there is information, with photos when
available, only about the parents of all our
Samoyeds. Step by step we will be adding
generations. |
|
19/10/08 |
With her BOB win (for the ninth time) in Martorell (Spain) this weekend, Angie has been
since December last year 8 consecutive times at least
best Samoyed bitch, and additionally BOB in five
of the shows. And that under very different
judges: Peter Harsany (Hungary), Rafael García
(Spain, breeder judge), Carmen Navarro (Spain,
breeder judge), Ritva Raita (Finland), Mag.
Stefanie Schreiböck (Austria, breed specialist),
Franz Zimmermann (Austria, breed specialist),
Dr. Otto Schimpf (Austria) and Göran Bodegaard (Sweden).
Unfortunately, it seems that this time Angie will
shed her coat more heavily than it is usual in
her. Therefore we will have to stop showing her
for the rest of the year.
Her "comrade-in-arms" in the last 4 shows,
Haltija (4 CAC plus 2 RCACIB / CACIB), has started
to shed too. A real pity. |
|
05/10/08 |
Lily's sire,
Thundery Thysonn de Sanna Gourska, after adding
an eighth national champion title two weeks ago
in Gibraltar to his never-ending list of
trophies, was shown this weekend—again with
great success—at the Gerrman Nordic Dog
Specialty Shows held in Hockenheim. On Saturday
he was CAC VDH + CAC DCNH + BOB under the Swiss
judge Ms Maya Delaquis, and today CAC VDH + CAC
DCNH + BOB + RBISS under the German
DCNH-approved breed specialised judge
Ms Petra Caspelherr. |

International Champion title has been confirmed
by the FCI. |

Last weekend too,
Haltija's daughter Bijou-Bijou de Salviamar,
handled by her owner Ana, made her debut in the
official show rings at the International Dog
Show held in León (Spain). Sonia Falleti found
her to be "very promising" and ranked her 2nd out of three Samoyed
puppy bitches. |
|
30/09/08 |
Last weekend we
were with Angie (out of coat—well, her way of
being out of coat) and Haltija (in full
coat) at the Bundessieger Ausstellung / Austrian
Winner Show in Tulln, near Vienna. Haltija, from
the Open Class, took her third Austrian CAC and
a RCACIB/CACIB, while Angie, competing in
Champion Class, took all the prizes in the
breed: CACA, CACIB and BOB (Austrian Winner
2008).
Since we
(contrary to nearly everybody's practice, but in
accordance to the supposed purpose of dog shows)
do not hide our Samoyeds in crates at the show
premises, both Angie and Haltija enjoyed great
popularity among the normal spectators. Mainly
our Finnish girl for her sweet temperament.

Now, both Haltija and Angie need a fourth CAC,
but in one year time, to be Austrian
champions. |

We have just
received the official certificates by AVEPA for
Lily's hips and elbows. As expected she has been
graded A/A in hips (certificate nº 4323)
and 0/0 in elbows (certificate nº 161). |

Looking in
Internet for results in Mexico, we have found
that Northy (Bright Northern Star de Salviamar)
was shown some weeks ago at the 1st Dog Show of
the Mexican-Argentinean Canophile Club.
Competing in Puppy B Class, August 21st he was
2nd in group 5 under judge Rafael Malo (Spain),
August 22nd he was placed again 2nd in group by
Joe Tacker (USA), and August 23rd he was 4th in
group under Peter Baynes (England). His
owner is still showing Northy with the wrong name (Northy
Star) and without stating our kennel name. |

Seebensee (1657 m height amsl), Ehrwald
(Austria)

We have been
with Angie and Haltija for some days on a short
vacation in the Austrian Alps. Last weekend we
showed both of them at the Alpencup Dog Shows in
Innsbruck. Under two specialised judges, Mag.
Stefanie Schreiböck and Franz Zimmermann (appointed, as it is customary in Austria, by the ÖCNHS,
the Austrian Club for Nordic Breeds and Sledge
Dogs), Angie was both days BOS, and Haltija was
2nd best bitch on Saturday and took 2 CAC awards
.
Back home they seem to long for the rather cool
temperatures we could enjoy in Ehrwald.

Our girls'
littermates do not stop adding titles. Yesterday,
it was Haltija's brother Kalle (Iciveitican
Hemmo Halinalle) who achieved all in one go the International, Finnish and Norwegian
champion titles with his CAC/RCACIB(CACIB) win
at the International Dog Show held in Tornio
(Lapland) under judge Paula Rekiranta and a
mid-large entry of 27 Samoyeds. In the same show his
and Haltija's sister Halti (BIS, INT, NOR & FIN
CH Iciveitican Honey Hot Bear) was CACIB and BOS.
A big hug to them, and congratulations to Heidi,
their breeder! |

With some delay we
would like to inform of the first great success
of Northy (Bright Northern Star de Salviamar)
in the Mexican show rings. June 27th at
the Panamerican Circuit All Breed Dog Show (FCI)
held in Ajusco, Northy was Best in Show Puppy A under
judge Ralph Scoggins (USA) and handled by his
owner Eduardo Israel Villaseñor.

There are some new
titles in the family our girls do want to inform
of:
June 21st Haltija's litter sister, BIS NOR & FIN
CH Iciveitican Honey Hot Bear, was CACIB + BOB
at the international dog show of Gällivare
(Sweden) under judge Rajko Rotner (SVN)
defeating 15 Samoyeds, and got the right to be
an International Champion.
June 28th Amélie's litter sister, LUX & BIH CH
Arctic Alsea de Sanna Gourska, was CAC + CACIB +
BOS at the international dog show held in Uden
(Netherlands) under judge Javier Sánchez (ESP)
and added a new title: International Champion.
Finally, June 29th Lily's sire,
INT, FRA, CHE, LUX, BHI, NLD &
PRT CH
Thundery Thysonn de Sanna Gourska, was BIS at
the National All Breed Dog Show held in Charleville-Mézières (France) under judge Le
Magnan (FRA).
A big hug to Halti, Alsea and Thysonn, and to their
respective breeders! |

results
Angie is still
going on: half recovered from her injury after
rolling downstairs at home mid of May, which
prevented her from being shown at both the
Spanish and the French main championship shows, Angie
achieved last weekend her third consecutive BOB
win. This time at the International Dog Show of Onda (Spain) under judge Ritva Raita.
In the same show Lily got her first Spanish CAC,
and Amélie was second best bitch and RCACIB
after Angie. |

Yesterday, Northy
flew to his new home in Mexico. It was a long
and stressing journey, even for a calm and
self-confident a puppy like Northy is, but he
arrived save and sound. We wish him a happy life
with Eduardo, his owner, in the "New
World". |

Bold Princess: passed away April
26th
Blue Angel: meantime recovered from an infection by
parvovirus

Boogie-Woogie: passed away
April 27th. |
Last weekend two
of the puppies of our last litter (d.o.b.
11/02/08), Bold Princess (on Saturday) and Woogie
(on Sunday) died of a parvovirosis. A third
puppy, Blue Angel, was infected but has meantime
fortunately fully recovered from it, maybe
because her vet did not pay attention to the
fact that she was vaccinated twice against
parvovirosis (second shot April 11th with
Vanguard CPV-L/DA2Pi from Pfizer Laboratories)
and applied her the protocol for infection by
parvovirus from the very beginning.
The rest of puppies, even Queen who lives
together with Blue Angel in the same home, have
not been affected until today in the slightest
way.
As responsible breeders we would like to get a
scientific answer other than "that can happen"
or "it has been bad luck". We must be sure that
we protect our puppies the best way. And we owe the owners of
our dead puppies an explanation that may relief
at least a little bit their grief.
Now, we are waiting for the post mortem
results by an official and independent
reference laboratory. |
|
21/04/08 |
Last weekend all
puppies, except for the blue boy, went to their
new homes. This time Haltija has given us a bunch of
pretty bitch puppies, but finally the pick girl
has been Bijou-Bijou. We are eager to see her with
Ana, her new owner, in the show rings. |

07/04/08 |
Last weekend we
have been with Surprise and Lily in Portugal to
the dog shows of Moita/Costa Azul. Both of them competed
for the first time in intermediate class
(Surprise was shown in Junior class on Saturday). Our
little Lily was awarded both days the CAC, and
was RCACIB on Sunday, second to a bitch which
has already the right to be an International
Champion. Therefore, we expect that the FCI will
confirm Lily's first CACIB. Until now Lily is
the most precocious winner of our kennel: first
time BOB with 9 months and 20 days, first CAC
with 15 months and 4 days, and most probably
first CACIB with 15 months and 5 days.
