2009

31/12/09

2009 has been an annus horribilis for us in regard to breeding. First it was the fiasco with Amélie's litter in February. We should have read the web site of Arcanas von Tuuli before agreeing to that mating. That the site is in German should not have been an obstacle, since German is Luis's second language. Rosmarie and Beat are of the very rare sort of breeder who speak frankly about health issues in their Samoyeds. And we had read years ago some humorous articles written by Rosmarie in the Swiss magazine 'Samojeden-News'. Well, at least both surviving boys of the litter are healthy, very nice-looking, and their respective owners are delighted with their well-balanced and good-natured temperament.
In February we were sent frozen semen from an American Samoyed stud related to Amélie (closest by Bramblewood's Bluelite). Our aim was to use it next year for Amélie, and have a second litter ex Lily this year, mainly to dilute the high handling and transport costs of frozen semen. In March we inseminated Lily using the usual high-tech method for frozen, but she stayed empty. In July, after our firm decision of withdrawing Amélie from our breeding plans, we inseminated Haltija instead. She stayed empty as well. In Autumn we decided not to use the remaining frozen semen for a second try with Lily. We inseminated her this time with refrigerated semen from a beautiful European stud. Third disappointment, since Lily stayed again empty.
We are having a spell of bad luck in regard to puppies. In 2008 we were to get an American puppy, but some of the highly beautiful puppies in the litter were affected by retinal folds. This year 2009, Cathy Pendleton had promised us the pick girl from the future litter ex her bitch Monique (BISS AM CH SnowSong's A Moment Like This). However, Monique stayed empty, and Cathy sadly passed away a few weeks later. We still have Cathy in our hearts.

With showing we have no complaints. Although in 2009 we have attended very few shows compared to both previous years, our girls have been very successful. First it was Haltija in April who finished her International Championship. Lily kept enjoying the judges' favour: In May she got a group placement in Viana do Castelo, in July she finished her Portuguese Champion title in Lisbon and in October she got in Vélez-Málaga the right to be an International Champion. Her booty in 2009 in only 6 shows: 2 champion titles, 1 group placement, 1 BOB, 4 CACIB and 5 CAC. She failed only at the Spanish Spring Obligatory Show in Talavera, the most important of all shows, where she had a disastrous performance. Despite of it, Antonio di Lorenzo rated her excellent. Just 4 weeks before, Lily had defeated in Viana the winner bitch in Talavera.
Finally, Angie stayed undefeated in her 3 shows, ending her triumphal campaign of the last 23 months taking the Austrian Champion title in Tulln. We have decided to retire her from the show rings, mainly to not succumb to the temptation of trying further titles (maybe the Swiss or the German ones).
Amélie will be retired too, since she does not like showing at all. It is a pity, because Amélie is in many aspects the best of our girls.
But not only our four girls at home have been successful. Northy, our boy in Mexico, was two times BIS Junior, got several placements in the adult group and went a Junior Champion in Mexico. For unknown reasons his owners have discontinued showing him. And his sister Bijou, here in Spain, was two times Junior Group Winner, two times BOB and has earned her first CAC and CACIB awards. Anyway, contrary to what happens with Lily, judges tend to undervalue her merits.

Now it is time to reconsider with calm our future.

23/12/09 We have just got from Fabio Fioravanzi a copy of his last book on Samoyeds (Obiettivo Zootecnico Sul Samoiedo, Antonio Crepaldi Editore) with up to 6 pictures of our girls: 2 of Amélie, 1 of Amélie and Haltija, 1 of Angie and 2 of the whole pack (Angie, Haltija, Amélie and Lily). And, no, we are not friends, family or acquaintances of Mr. Fioravanzi. He just liked all the pictures, he asked us for.
22/12/09 The bad news today is that Lily is not pregnant.
09/12/09 We want to warmly thank Karin Nyhuis (Bramblewood Samoyeds) for sending us a CD with some nice pictures of several of her older Samoyeds (ancestors of our Amélie and of the stud we will use for Haltija in January), and Melissa Howell and Mary Jo E. Willdigg for sponsoring our membership to the Samoyed Club of America.
07/12/09 The award to Angie of the Austrian Champion title was confirmed by the ÖKV November 25, and we have just got by post her title certificate.
07/12/09 Family Album - Parents page updated with the 12th champion title so far of Thysonn, sire of our Lily, he recently took at the Norwegian Winner Show in Lillestrøm.

We have just got the picture from Elsie Buhaly, her breeder.

16/11/09

Well, Lily has been taken her time but finally we have bred her. We are looking forward to, hopefully, announce mid of December that she is pregnant. Luis had always been a fan of the boy's sire. Unfortunately, it was not possible to use him. In the last two years we have been tracking several of his sons. It was early this year that it was clear for us who was our only candidate. A gorgeous young boyout of the very last litter Lucky could manage to sirewho excels his father in many aspects. His achievements in the show rings during the last 8 months are only confirming our first impression.

01/11/09 We were yesterday with Amélie to the autumn obligatory show for the championship of Spain. Ana was there with Bijou too. Bijou was excellent 2nd in intermediate class (the first in her class, Nikara Karimah, took the CAC-obligatory and the CACIB). Amélie on her part demonstrated that her motherhood has not changed her feeling deeply unhappy in shows and was rated excellent 4th in a class of 6. She did not change her sad face until she was again in the car to go back home. We will therefore retire her definitely from showing. It seems that we will save a lot of money staying at home in the months to come!
The best male and BOB was Cabaka's Valiant of Gucci who, coming too from the intermediate class, had no problems to defeat the open class winner. The open class in males, although not that much as in the spring obligatory show, was again disappointing. Breeders should make a big effort to improve. Anyway, the only Samoyed puppy present, Samspring Sir Lancelot, is outstandingly beautiful and was chosen best of group puppy in the afternoon. The girls
although none of them was to take one's hat off to herwere in general clearly better.
There were no Samoyeds competing in champion class. The 5 champions (in other countries) present were shown, with no success, in open class. Total entry 17 (only 3 years ago there were over 30 Samoyeds entered at the Spanish obligatory shows), present 14. Bred in Spain 5 (1x Bilken, 1x Nariz de Nieve, 1x Hayskem, 1x Villaodón, 1x Salviamar), bred by his/her exhibitor 4: 1x Nariz de Nieve, 1x Bilken, 2x Samspring). Country of origin of the dogs present: 5x Spain, 2x Portugal, 2x France, 2x USA, 1x Italy, 1x Denmark (BOB) and 1x UK (BOS). Exhibitors from abroad 3 (2 from Portugal, 1 from France).

Ana with Bijou (Exc. 2nd in intermediate class) and Pedro with Samspring Artemis (Exc. 2nd in open class) competing for the RCAC/RCACIB, finally awarded to Hayskem Tundra Diamond (Exc. 1st in open class).

Amélie, even drooping her tail as extreme sign that she would prefer not to be shown. From left to right: White Magic Star To Villaodón (Exc. 3rd), Amélie (Exc. 4th), CH Samspring Artemis (Exc. 2nd), Hayskem Tundra Diamond (Exc. 1st, RCAC/RCACIB), CH Be My Baby Apache of Karasea (Exc., not placed). Not in the picture: Nala de Bilken (VG, not placed).

Finally a short comment regarding the argument between Luis and the main steward. When it came to place the open class bitches, Carla Molinari, the judge, asked the main steward how many of the exhibits she should place. The steward answered: three. At this, Luis told to the steward that she was wrong and that the judge should place 4 of the exhibits (the whole class had been rated at least very good). Molinari accepted and placed Amélie 4th, but the steward went angry and argued that the Show Regulations clearly stated that 2 exhibits or optionally 4 were to be placed. Why then had she said 3? Luis replied to her that the worst stewards he had ever met were the Spanish ones, many times with little or no knowledge about the regulations. That was too much for the steward who answered that she was an approved judge too. Let's draw a veil over the rest of the argument. It seems that when all Samoyeds were judged, the steward left the ring waving a copy of the show regulations (?) in one of her  hands and very agitated looking for Luis, who, fortunately, was not there any more.
Quote from the Regulations for FCI Dog Shows (valid as from 01.01.2008):
The four best dogs in each class are placed provided that they have been awarded at least the qualification “VERY GOOD”. (The Spanish version does say, obviuosly, the same).

28/10/09 Haltija's International Champion title has been confirmed officially by the FCI.

26/10/09

Amélie and Lily walking us on the hills close to Vélez-Málaga the afternoon before the show.

Since Lily is taking her time with her season (she is now over one and a half months delayed), we decided to show her and Amélie yesterday at the International Dog Show 'Costa del Sol' in Vélez-Málaga. Amélie took the CACIB and Lily was CAC and RCACIB/CACIB, and became that way (subject to confirmation by the FCI) an

International Champion !!

That has been the 4th champion title won by our girls in the present year so far: Haltija the International title, Lily the Portuguese and the International titles and Angie the Austrian title.

05//10/09/ We have been with Angie and Haltija to Austria. On Saturday we showed both at the Bundessiegerausstellung (Austrian Winner Show) in Tulln. Angieonly Samoyed to be rated 'Excellent'was awarded the CACA and became thus an

Austrian Champion !!

After 58 shows (5 in Puppy Class, 2 in Junior Class, 13 in Intermediate Class, 13 in Open Class and 25 in Champion Class), 12 BOB wins (plus 2 Best of Breed Puppy), 10 BOS wins, 1 RBISS at the Spanish Samoyed Specialty 2007 and 4 champion titles, Angienow 5 years oldretires from the show rings. In her last 13 shows since December 2007 she has been at least best Samoyed female and was BOB eight times. We are very proud of her, but today is a sad day for us.

28/09/09 Last Sunday Bijou-Bijou de Salviamar, now wearing a splendid coat, was CAC + CACIB + BOB at the all breed dog show of León under specialist judge Sherry Wallis (USA). A big hug to Bijou and to Ana, her proud owner.
04/09/09 For those who are asking about or waiting for a Salviamar puppy, some information on when we plan to breed again added to Our Puppies page.
29/08/09

The bad news today is that Hatija is not pregnant after her insemination with frozen semen. First it was Lily in March who failed, now our reliable Finnish girl. In the next weeks Lily should be again in season. We will most probably try this time with a different boy and a different technique: refrigerated instead of frozen. Provided, of course, that Lily is not ready for mating exactly the week our choice candidate will be competing at the World Dog Show in Bratislava.

26/08/09 Several friends have asked us about Queen's official name (with the word white in it): Yes, both sisters are pure white, as the rest of Haltija's offspring. It is only that they live in the countryside in the usually rainy Asturias, in the northern part of Spain, and one of their favourite pastimes—apart of running free in the forest—is digging holes in the muddy soil of their garden. Keeping them clean and white is a task their owner has given up for the moment.
22/08/09

Blue Angel Star de Salviamar, call name Silver, at the age of nearly 18 months.

Both sisters, Queen (Belle White Queen de Salviamar)
and Silver with their inseparable friend 'Chispa'.

18/08/09 Yesterday night our little Coral left us. She was exactly 6 months old. That is way Margarita decided to take Coral with us and the rest of the pack to our usual daily cross-country walk. The puppy could not understand why she was always left at home. She really enjoyed it trying to chase the many rabbits she met. However, the effort was devastating for her defective heart. Back home Coral felt ill, and a couple of hours later her heart stopped beating. Lily stayed with her all the time, trying to convince Coral to get up and play with her. Angie, however, who usually lay down close to Coral and kissed her every time the puppy's heart threatened to fail, stayed this time apart, watching the scene from a 3 m distance.
Unfortunately, the vets were right when in May, after detecting her congenital heart defect, diagnosed that Coral would not live more than 3 months.
31/07/09 Lily's Portuguese champion title has been confirmed officially by the CPC: Campeão Português de Beleza (CH PT) no. 5816.
13/07/09

We have been with Lily and Haltija to the International Dog Shows in Lisbon. Our exclusive aim was to finish Lily's Portuguese Championship. And we far exceeded our expectations. With some luck, of course. Lily had started last week to shed her wonderful coat and Haltija was still half recovering her not less good one. Ana was there too with Bijou (absolutely off coat).
On Saturday
we decided to keep Lily on the bench to smooth the path for Bijou's first championship points when she was ranked Excellent 1st in intermediate class. Sonia Faletti, the judge, however, fell in love with Haltija and awarded her both the CAC and the CACIB, and later ranked her as the best bitch (BOS) against the junior winner.

Bijou's excellent side gait at trot

Mother and daughter confronted: we suppose that it was because of her being out of coat that Bijou was not even awarded the RCAC.

On Sunday, with the obligatory CAC-QC at stake, we had to suffer the typical Lisbon weather in July: an ambient temperature above 30 ºC (86 ºF), no breeze and a blazing sun, just at its zenith when the Samoyeds were called into the ring. Haltija, our Lapp girl, shown this time by Margarita, decided that trotting at noon under the sun was not the best idea, and refused to move twice. Loureiro let her go with a very good. Lily, confronted with Bijou for the points, was awarded the CAC-QC and the CACIB, while Bijou had to settle for the reserve (RCAC-QC). When Lily was confronted with the junior winner for the best bitch, she started to pace at high speed instead of trotting. Mr Loureiro realised suddenly that Lily did not deserve the honours he had just given to her and went absolutely angry at Lily and at himself. He nearly shouted that Lily should have been downgraded to very good. Luckily for Lily (and unfortunately for Bijou) it was too late to change his decision. Anyway, the point would have stayed in the family (Haltija's one). When we left the ring, Loureiro was still very upset explaining to our common friend, and happy winner both days, Pedro Brito (Samspring) why he should have downgraded Lily, and about the bad movement of the pointed dog (another "pacer").

Lily has got her Portugal Champion title in only 5 shows (the minimum possible): Excellent-QC (and BISS Junior) at the Portuguese Nordic Dog Specialty 2007, under judge Luis Gorjâo Henriques; CAC at the National Dog Show of Moita 2008, under judge Vitor Veiga; CAC/RCACIB at the International Dog Show of Costa Azul 2008, under judge Fernando Rodrigues Madeira (these two competing still in intermediate class); CAC/CACIB/BOB (and 3rd of Group) at the International Dog Show of Viana do Castelo 2009, under judge Avi Marshak; and finally CAC-QC/CACIB, yesterday, at the International Dog Show of Lisbon under said judge Manuel Loureiro.

And contrary to what has been usual in Portugal in the last two years, where only very few Samoyeds had been present at shows, Lily had rivals to defeat in each and every of the 4 shows where she earned a CAC.

04/07/09

Northy (MEX JR CH Bright Northern Star de Salviamar) again BIS Junior in Mexico, despite being out of coat. This time under judge Dr. Carmen L. Battaglia (AKC judge and author of the book "Breeding better dogs") at the All Breed Dog Show held in Ajusco.

15/06/09

Tanja and Franco (Sonrisa de Nieve Samojeden) and their Samoyeds Tycho (CHE & AUT CH Arctic Aivik Tycho, uncle of our Amélie) and Bayju (Arctic Aivik Bayju con Sonrisa)  have been staying with us over the weekend. On Sunday we all went with Tycho, Bayju, Lily and Angie to the International All Breed Dog Show of Onda. Bayju was Excellent 1st, Best Junior in Breed. Unfortunately, this year for the first time there was no junior final in Onda. Lily was CAC + RCACIB. Tycho was CAC + CACIB + BOS, and finished that way his International Champion title. And Angie took the CACIB, was BOB (for the 12th time so far) and short-listed in a very strong group 5, full of many outstanding dogs. This time Tycho and Angie have interchanged their placings of the last time they met in a show ring (IHA Innsbruck, August 2008).
This afternoon Coral is strongly longing for Bayju, her best friend in the last four days.

Onda 2009: Margarita with Angie, Sarai with Mika and Lily,
Franco with Tycho, Tanja with Bayju, and Laura with Dana and Kaos

15/06/09 Northy (Bright Northern Star de Salviamar) Mexican JR Champion.
07/06/09 Coral  is back home. On Friday she was diagnosed a congenital heart disease. We asked her owners to return us the puppy, and yesterday we drove to collect her. We know that it has been hard for them, but it is the best decision.

It has not been difficult for Coral to integrate into the pack, and even Amélie, her mother, who was not very happy yesterday with her return, has fully accepted her meantime.

31/05/09 Picture of AKC CH Rexann's Wonderful Mr Kannuq, we have just received from Kathy Bube, added to the Grandparents page.

He is grandsire of Ciro, our first Samoyed, and great-grandsire of our Silver.
Here we can see him in 1980, at the age of 3 1/2 years, taking a BOB win exhibited by Jo Ann Stage, founder of Rexann Samoyeds.

We have added too a second picture of Rexann's Casino Magic to the Parents page.

23/05/09 We have been with Lily to the International Spring Dog Show of the Spanish Kennel Club. Antonio di Lorenzo did like Lily, but both she and Margarita had a disastrous performance. At the end the judge desisted from trying Lily to move properly or pay attention to him, ranked her excellent 4th in open class, and told to Margarita: 'Your bitch is very beautiful and really good, but she would need a better handler'.

Lily simply ignoring Mr Lorenzo. Not the best way to get a good placement!

On her part, Bijou (out of coat) was shown by Ana, her owner, for the first time in intermediate class. Contrary to her sister, she behaved and moved very well and was ranked excellent 1st in her class. Di Lorenzo found Bijou to be somewhat overweight.

21/05/09 We have got the repeated genetic profiles for Lily and Amélie, now in compliance with the I.S.A.G. recommendations (20 markers + amelogenin) very recently adhered to in Spain. Now the Spanish genetic profiles match up with the French ones, except for one added marker (AHTH 130) in the French profiles, which use 21. In Spain alleles are still named by numbers, and not by letters as it is customary in many other countries. What is the correlation between the letters and the numbers? According to its own statement, the Clinical Genetic Service of the Veterinary Faculty (Complutense University of Madrid) does not know it. Spanish or French genetic profiles have not a single marker in common with the ones approved by the American Kennel Club. What are the genetic profiles in our case worth for? Very simple: for nothing. The sires of our girls or puppies are genetically identified in France or in USA, but there is no way to use their profiles for a parentage confirmation. A prompt global standardization would be welcomed.
17/05/09 Yesterday, Bafuku—sire of our last litter ex Amélie—took his 4th champion title so far with a splendid BOB-win at the International All Breed Dog Show in St. Gallen (CHE). Still under 3 years old, Bafuku is a champion in Germany (VDH), The Netherlands and Switzerland, apart of holding the IB champion title. Our best wishes for the next French Championship Show in Paris mid of June!
11/05/09 Last weekend, at the National resp. International All Breed Dog Shows of Villagarcía de Arousa,  Bijou, still in junior class, was BOS under judge Monique Van Brempt (BE) on Saturday, and BOB under judge Pascual Asensi (ES) on Sunday.
Her mother, Haltija, should have been shown on Saturday at the International All Breed Dog Show of Elvas (PT), but when we bathed her on Thursday, she lost literally all her undercoat. We preferred therefore to stay at home.
08/05/09 We would like to thank again this year Kathy Bube (Rexann's Samoyeds) for sending us a picture of one of the ancestors of our girls (this time a picture of Rexann's Dancing Noel), and for her promise that she will look in old albums for a picture of Rexann's Wonderful Mr Kannuq (d.o.b. December 3, 1976), grandparent of our first Samoyed, Ciro. We highly appreciate it Kathy!

06/05/09 Details about Angie's granddam CH Rexann's Dancing Noel updated in the Grandparents page. According to the records stated in "Samoyed Champions 2003-2008", she was the dam of 13 AKC champions and ranks #7, ex aequo with Charisma's Moondust of Vostok (Dusty), among the top producing dams in 56 years of Samoyed history in the USA.
30/04/09 Not all must be pictures of well groomed Samoyeds, ready for a show. Here we can see another of Haltija's daughters: Blue Angel Star, aka Silver, with her sister Queen. Both are of the athletic type, with long legs and strong muscles: the perfect working Samoyeds. They are enjoying a happy life in the countryside in northern Spain with Susana, their proud owner.

26/04/09 Last weekend Luis went with Haltija and Lily to Portugal. On Sunday Lily was shown at the International All Breed Dog Show of Viana do Castelo. The goal was to take a third country CACIB. Lily did not only achieve it, she took the breed as well, and was placed 3rd in the group. Many thanks to her judge in the breed and the group, Mr Avi Marshak (ISR). Now Lily must wait until autumn for the '1 year rule' to be fulfilled and take a last CACIB in Spain to be an International Champion. That way all our girls would be champions.

To round off the weekend, Ana came with Bijou to watch the show. It was very nice to see both girls (owner and Sammy) again. We are sure that Bijou will be in due time a champion as well. She is a beautiful bitch and an excellent representative of the breed.

26/04/09 All of Amélie's puppies are already gone to their new homes. Both boys and the girl are beautiful, with many outstanding features, and Chardonnay is most probably the best Samoyed we have bred so far.
Amélie has been a marvellous mother, excelling even Haltija, who had set a very high standard. Now she is refusing any food, sitting all day next to the door waiting for her pups to return. She will need–and have–all our love and care.
19/04/09 Today, at the 22nd International All Breed Dog Show of Asturias (Spain), Bijou has repeated her results of yesterday: Excellent 1st, Best Junior in Breed under judge Marcelino Pozo (ES) and Junior Group Winner under judge Andrej Karmienski (PL).

18/04/09 Haltija's children do not stop giving us reasons to be proud of them (and of their mother). Today, at the 31st National All Breed Dog Show of Asturias, Bijou was Excellent 1st, Best Junior in Breed, under judge Juan Naveda (ES), and Junior Group Winner under judge Violaine Pressiat (FR). Congratulations to Ana, Bijou's owner and handler!
17/04/09 We have just got the genetic profiles of Amélie and Lily. Comparing the profiles of Angie, Lily and Amélie, Lily and Angie have more alleles in common.
13/04/09 Grandparents page added to the Family Album with information on the grandsires and granddams of our Samoyeds.
11/04/09 Our hearts and minds are with Cathy at her Memorial at the Atlanta Kennel Club in Perry (Georgia).

Cathy Pendleton with some of her "kids": Jack, Kiaya, Tia, Monique, Dusty, Celia, Praise and Caprice

06/04/09 Yesterday, Luis was with Haltija to the International All Breed Dog Show of Costa Azul in Moita (Portugal). Ewa Nielsen (Sweden) awarded her both the CAC and the CACIB, and Haltija got the right (subject to confirmation by the FCI) to be an

International Champion !!

That way Haltija has managed to become a champion before her son (Northy) and daughter (Lily) who will most probably be champions in the second half of the year. At least we hope so.
It was a pleasant show day in company of our Portuguese friends Claudia and Pedro (Samspring) and their lovely and  playful Cabaka Juniors: Ulli (who took the breed) and Valiant.

30/03/09 And more results from Mexico: Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd, Northy was both days 3rd BOG under judge Gerardo Bernard (MX) resp. Lowell Davis (US), and both days 'Best Junior in Group' at the all breed dog shows (CACM) held in Irapuato.
22/03/09 New results from Mexico: On March 7th Northy, still 12 months old, was BOG Junior and 2nd BOG competing against the adult dogs of group 5 under judge Roberto Vélez Picó (PR) at the all breed dog show (CGCM/CACIB) of the Mexican-Japanese Canophile Club.

Here at home, Amélie's puppies are already 33 days old.

Carnival King (left) & Chardonnay

12/03/09 Three new pictures of Arctic Ambassador, 25 months old, added to his page.

01/03/09 First of March, it's high time to open the eyes and have a look around:

27/02/09 Amelie's litter is 10 days old. All three babies are growing fast and healthy, and the girl and the blue boy have already fully pigmented black noses.

25/02/09 Haltija's son (and Bijou's littermate), Northy, is beginning to make a name for himself in the Mexican show rings. Exhibited by a professional handler, he has been BIS Junior last weekend. Up to now Northy  has been BIS in Puppy A class, group winner several times in Puppy B class, group winner several times and BIS in Junior class.
22/02/09 This weekend, Bijou-Bijou de Salviamar was Excellent 1st, best junior at both the National and the International dog shows held in Valladolid. Congratulations to Ana, her owner!
21/02/09 Today, Cathy Pendleton (SnowSong Samoyeds) sadly has passed away. This is a great loss for the Samoyed world. At least she died surrounded by her family and friends, pictures of her beloved dogs on the walls, in a bright sunny room. Her foundation bitch, Dusty, was allowed to stay with her the night before last. Cathy has been bravely fighting against her illness until the last moment. She was last October with 6 of her Sams (Major, Flair, Pearl, Quest, Kiaya and Tia) at the National Specialty. Pearl was 2nd in her class, and both Major (his fourth so far) and Kiaya got an AOM. Even just a couple of weeks ago, she was in the ring putting a point on her bitch Pearl. Cathy kept doing breeding plans. Her bitch Monique, Cathy had promised us the pick girl from, stayed empty of her last breeding. The litter would have been due for today. We prefer it so. Cathy would have been worrying about Monique and the puppies.
We are praying for Cathy's soul.

Cathy, in the center, with Kiaya (second Sam from the left)

19/02/09 Our boy in Mexico (Bright Northern Star de Salviamar), now competing in junior class, achieved again excellent results last weekend at the all breed dog shows organized by the FCM: one day Best in Group, and BIG 2nd next day.
18/02/09 Amélie's litter is here. Unfortunately, only three (2 boys and one girl) out of seven puppies have survived.  Amélie is now recovering from the final Caesarean section.
11/02/09 Result of Lily's recurrent eye examination: Clear / no abnormality detected.
05/02/09 Old picture of our still mourned first Samoyed Ciro added to Photos (second from below).
05/02/09 Two new pictures of Haltija—4 years old—taken yesterday added to her Gallery.

Although still in winter, we can enjoy the beautiful view of almond trees in full blossom and the early fragrance of many orange trees.

31/01/09 6 generation pedigree added to Amélie's page.
30/01/09 Last weekend Bijou (Bijou-Bijou de Salviamar) was shown in Porto by her owner, Ana, for the first time in Junior class. On Saturday, in her second official show so far, Bijou refused to let the judge (Gianfranco Bauchal, who was somewhat rough with her) check her teeth. As a result he downgraded her to 'Good', not asking Ana to open Bijou's mouth but telling her that he should have disqualified the bitch (a junior under one year!). On Sunday Bijou behaved as one should expect from a well-mannered young lady, and Michael Forte ranked her Excellent-QC 1st, Best Junior in breed.
25/01/09 This Sunday we were with Lily and Angie at the first dog show of the Spanish 2009 calendar. From now on we will devote all our efforts to Amélie's expected litter and will not exhibit again any of our girls until the second half of the year.
17/01/09 Today, Amélie should have been exhibited, together with Angie, at the International Dog Show held in Nuremberg (Germany). Unfortunately, due to family matters we had to stay in Spain. Instead, she paid a visit to the vet and we got the good news that Amélie is pregnant, and that she will have around 6 puppies about February 20th. See more details in Our Puppies page.
